Akira Nishino, former Japanese coach, is widely rumored by PSSI to replace Kluivert.
Suara.com – Japanese coach Akira Nishino is on the list of candidates for the Indonesian national team coach.
The coaching seat for the Indonesian National Team is empty again following an agreement between PSSI and the coaches led by Patrick Kluivert to end their collaboration.
A number of figures are now widely rumored to be candidates for the new coach of the Garuda squad, with the strongest rumors pointing to a strategic figure from East Asia.
Total Evaluation After Failing to the World Cup
The termination of relations with Patrick Kluivert was officially announced by PSSI on Thursday, October 16 2025.
This crucial decision was taken following the Indonesian national team’s failure to advance to the 2026 World Cup, which was triggered by two consecutive defeats in the fourth round of the Asian Zone Qualification, namely 2-3 to Saudi Arabia and 0-1 against Iraq.
Kluivert’s tenure, who has only been in office since January 2025, replacing Shin Tae-yong, only lasted a short nine months.
The federation considers this result as part of a comprehensive performance evaluation, although appreciation for the contribution of the Dutch coach is still given by PSSI.
One of the results considered most disappointing by the public was the crushing 0-6 defeat to Japan in June 2025.
In a situation full of speculation regarding Patrick Kluivert’s replacement, football observer Coach Justin also expressed his views.

According to him, the main problem is not just losing or winning, but also the quality of the game displayed by the Indonesian National Team.
Justin urged PSSI to immediately take quick steps to determine a new direction for the national team and find a new coach as soon as possible.
“It’s fast. We’ll get a new coach in a week or two,” he said optimistically.
However, he also reminded that finding a new coach is crucial because it will determine the future of the Indonesian national team.
