Yuki Tsunoda: F1 Future After Azerbaijan GP

Yuki Tsunoda’s Future in Formula 1: A Strong showing in Baku Coudl Secure His 2026 Seat

The 2025 Formula 1 season saw Yuki Tsunoda begin with Racing Bulls. However, after just two races, he was unexpectedly swapped out for Liam Lawson, with Tsunoda moving to the senior Red Bull racing team. This move, while a significant step up, hasn’t yet seen Tsunoda consistently challenge the performance levels of teammate Max Verstappen. Despite facing criticism in recent months, a strong sixth-place finish in Baku has substantially boosted his prospects for the future.

Tsunoda’s Baku Performance Could Seal His 2026 Fate

according to Sky Sports F1 expert Ted Kravitz, Tsunoda’s remarkable performance in Azerbaijan has provided him with a much-needed confidence boost and could very well guarantee him a seat in Formula 1 for the 2026 season.

“The real yuki Tsunoda is back, and it was a very solid sixth place. It was a very good performance, and I’m glad he could score points again for Red Bull. Hopefully, this will strengthen the Red Bull Racing programme.”

Kravitz further elaborated on Tsunoda’s potential next steps:

“He will probably go back to Racing Bulls next year, but with more performances like this,he will surely be in that team.”

This suggests that while a return to the sister team is highly likely, Tsunoda’s recent form is making a compelling case for his continued presence in the sport.

Reports from motorsport.hu indicate that Red Bull is expected to finalize its driver lineup for the upcoming year around the Mexico City Grand Prix. This leaves Tsunoda with three more races to make a lasting impression on Racing Bulls team boss Laurent Mekies and advisor Helmut Marko. His recent points finish in Baku has certainly put him in a stronger negotiating position as the decision-making process unfolds.
