Badminton: 300 athletes at the Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open 2025 international tournament
Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open 2025, a Super 100 level event, started on September 9 at the Nguyên gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh City. Organized by the City Culture and Sports Service in collaboration with the Vietnamese Badminton Federation, this tournament brings together nearly 300 players from 20 countries and territories.

The players will compete until September 14 for a total endowment of $ 110,000.
Vietnamese stars and hopes
This year, the competition attracts several international caliber players. In men, names such as Takuma Obayashi (Japan), Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo (Indonesia) and Sathish Kumar Karunakaran (India) are among the favorites. The young Vietnamese prodigy, Nguyên Hai Dang, ranked seventh, represents a great hope for the host country.
However, all eyes are turned to Nguyên Thuy Linh, a number 1 serial in simple ladies. After winning three consecutive titles from 2022 to 2024, it aims for a fourth coronation and arouses great expectations with supporters. The Vietnamese delegation also counts on experienced players like Lê Duc Phat, Tran Dinh Manh, and the veteran duo Nguyên Tiên Minh and Vu Thi Trang. Moreover, Nguyên Tiên Minh remains a legend of the tournament, with a record of four titles (2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012).

The first day was marked by a breathless match in simple ladies. The Vietnamese representative, seen Thi Trang, faced Aashi Rawat (Indonesia). After a difficult departure in the first set (15-21), Trang showed impressive resilience in the following sets. Despite a score often against it, it gradually regained control of the game, marking decisive points to finally win 2-1 (15-21, 21-17, 21-15).
According to the organizers, the Vietnam open has long served as a springboard for many talents, some of which have become world stars. Beyond its sporting aspect, the event is also a showcase to promote the image of a dynamic and welcoming hi chi minh-city with the international community.
