Women’s Bundesliga: HSV vs Wolfsburg – Late Goal Recap

Status: 07.09.2025 9:39 p.m.

The HSV women brought a acclaimed point in the Volksparkstadion when they returned to the Bundesliga. The Hamburg women deserved a 3: 3 (1: 2) in the northern duel against VfL Wolfsburg. For the Lower Saxony, the draw, on the other hand, is a strong damper.

In the seventh minute of stoppage time, a free kick from Svea Stolt converted the Volksparkstadion into a rabid from 25 meters. The almost 12,000 fans celebrated their team’s comeback point. The goal shortly before the end was the highlight of an exciting and eventful northern duel, in which the Wolfsburg women had already looked like the safe winners when they returned to coach Stephan Lerch.

But the goals of Lineth Beerensteyn (26th), Janina Minge (29th) and Alexandra Popp (52nd) did not reach the “wolf” in the end. Because on the one hand they missed it to put the lid on it. And because on the other hand, the HSV women fought tirelessly and still came back to Sophie Hillebrand for the meantime 1: 2 (31st) and the late goals by Melanie Brunnthaler (81st) and Stildt (90.+7).

HSV begins brave

The last minute goal was the reward for a courageous appearance by the Hamburg women-away from the start. For VfL, Svenja Huth had the first end of the game (10th), but the biggest opportunity of the initial phase had the hosts: Maria Mikolajova let Ella Pedemors get out with a strong rotation at the edge of the box, but her shot from a half -left position was too weak, Minge was able to block (12th).

The HSV was more alert and aggressive – and sometimes ran brave at the front. If the “wolves” thought that they could “nest” against the promoters in half, they saw each other at first.

The HSV women bravely played forward in the first half.

Three goals within five minutes

But as it is with top teams: often only a few moments are enough to change the course of a game. And so the Wolfsburg women took the lead with two goals within three minutes. Only Beersteyn met after a fine Pedemors’ plug -in pass (26th), then Minge by penalty (29th). However, the second goal was favored by the new HSV keeper Laura Sieger, who failed twice within a few seconds. First she played the ball into her feet without need, then she fouls the Dutchman clumsy in the penalty area.

How would the team of the new trainer Liese Brancao react to the double shock? The answer: strong – and with your own goal, in which Stina Johannes looked a bit unhappy. Mikolajova actually didn’t really hit a shot from 18 meters, but the new VfL goalkeeper underestimated the ball that lowered the latte. Hillebrand poked the ball into the empty goal (31st) and had the Hamburg supporters cheered in the Volksparkstadion. It was the first Bundesliga goal of the HSV women after 13 years.

Wolfsburg increases, Popp meets

At the beginning of the second section, however, the guests came out of the cabin more purposefully and duel strengthers – and that paid off shortly after the restart. Janou Levels conquered the ball against Jobina Lahr on the left and flanked exemplary on Popp, who hit the long corner from eleven meters (52.).

The Hamburgers were no longer so good at putting the Wolfsburg women on the outer tracks. The distances grew larger, the shifting more cumbersome – and this meant that balls were increasingly sailing into the penalty area. As in the 62nd minute, when Huth transferred from the right side for Cora Zicai, the 20-year-old failed with her shot on a strong reflex of winners, who made her mistake from the first half a little.

Brunnthaler and Stolt make the Volkspark a Tollhaus

The Lerch team subsequently let the ball and opponents skillfully run, the HSV didn’t really seem to be after – and was suddenly back in the game. Brunnthaler was sent on the trip by substitute Christin Meyer. First she let Minge and Thea Bjelde get out with a simple trick and then nailed the ball from 16 meters unsustainable in the top right of the angle (81.).

The dream gate out of nowhere – even if the substitute Kessya Bussy practically missed the decision in return (83.) – again for an additional energy boost for the Hamburgers who tried everything. Despite all the efforts, however, little pointed to a third goal. Up to the eighth minute of stoppage time-and Stoldt’s 25-meter free kick, which struggled past the inner post and the goal.

Stoldt? Meyer? HSV-PARTY Our there Nordtribüne!

At first Meyer was attributed to the hit. But it was neither clear whether there was nor a current one of Stoldt’s free kick – nor, and that very much for the annoyance on the part of the VfL, whether the ball was completely behind the line. There is no goal line technology.

The HSV players didn’t care, the entire team celebrated the unexpected point win in front of the north stand with the fans, while the Wolfsburg women left the field with hanging heads.
