In November 2021, Michelle Wylie, 38, married his John at the Carlton Hotel in Prestwick, England. But when the latter got to see the pictures from the wedding, the happy nostalgia was soon replaced by curiosity.

It was a male guest in the pictures that none of them had invited.

– There has always been in mind – who was it and why was he there? We all asked, “Do you know who that is?” We asked around among family and friends, but no one had any idea, says Michelle.

Over the years, Michelle regularly shared the pictures on Facebook in the hope that someone would eventually make themselves feel that they were the “unknown stranger” who showed up at her party. Unfortunately, she never got very far “in her search – but this week came the breakthrough.

– I looked through the wedding pictures and thought, “I’ll write to someone with many followers and ask if they can share them,” says Michelle.

“I was at the wrong wedding”

She contacted the content creator Dazza, who has over 400,000 followers on Facebook and 129,000 on Tiktok, and asked him to spread the pictures on his platforms.

– He posted the pictures and within two hours we had found him, says Michelle.

The unknown uninvited guest turned out to be a man named Andrew Helliman who had happened to make a mistake.

– I was at the wrong wedding, says Andrew.

They turned out that Andrew had been invited to another wedding by his partner whose friend Michaela would marry.

– For some reason he told me it would be at the Carlton Hotel in Prestwick at 14, when it was actually held at the Great Western Hotel in Ayr, says Andrew.

Because he was late to the party, Helliman drove to Carlton with just minutes to good. When he saw that there were wedding guests there, he thought “this is obviously the right place”.

– That I did not recognize a single person in there was given no warning bells, says Andrew.

Realized his mistake: “My God”

But he realized that it was danger and turned when a complete stranger began to go towards the altar.

– The music started, everyone got up and turned around to see the bride go down the time. Then I thought, “My God, that is not Michaela!” says Andrew.

He was frightened with his mistake.

– You can’t just get up and get out in the middle of a wedding so I simply had to play and sat there for twenty minutes and tried to be as invisible as possible, says Andrew.

After Wylie and John said “Yes”, Andrew quickly smiled on his way to Michaela’s wedding.

– I spent most of the evening recounting the story for people, says Andrew.

“Can’t stop laughing at it”

Thanks to Dazza, Michelle and Andrew were finally able to meet face to face on Thursday.

– It’s incredible. I just couldn’t stop laughing when I heard the story. It’s so fun, and the way Andrew tells it is brilliant. You never hear about this happening. I just can’t stop laughing at it, says Michelle.

She told me that the story “really put many smiles on people’s lips”.

– To finally know after all this time is really special, says Michelle.
