The organization of the Vuelta has ended the eleventh stage prematurely due to a pro-Palestinian protest at the finish in Bilbao in the Northern Spanish Basque Country. The price director reports this on Radio Vuelta on Monday evening, according to international press agencies.
Three kilometers before the end of the more than 157 kilometer long stage, which started and ended in Bilbao, the riders were urged, so there is no stage winner. The Dane Jonas Vingegaard of Visma-Lease A Bike and the Brit Tom Pidcock of Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team rode at that time. The organization does calculate the time differences.
Even before the Etappestart, Cycling Association Professional Cyclists’ Association (CPA) is concerned about the safety of the riders. Campaigners also turned against riders against riders, in particular those of the Israeli Prime Minister Tech team (IPT). For example, the Dutchman Taco van der Hoorn had to brake in the sixth stage of the Giro d’Italia, in the sixth stage because a Pro-Palestinian demonstrant blocked the road. Van der Hoorn, however, does not run for IPT but for a Belgian team.

Protesters and other critics state that Israel cycling team uses IPT to raise its own image, which is heavily damaged by the genocidal violence in Gaza. However, the team of the Canadian-Israeli real estate billionaire Sylvan Adams does not receive Israeli state aid. Adams wants to place Israel, where he has been living since 2016, on a pedestal internationally.
Of British cycling journalist Daniel Friebe On Wednesday afternoon that “several teams” asked the race management to throw IPT from the Vuelta because of the “increased safety risks.”
