Vingegaard Wins Vuelta: 2023 Race Recap

As expected, the Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard goes to the second Vuelta week as a top favorite. Before the break day on Monday, the Dane won the ninth stage of the 80th Spain Tour. The 28-year-old from Team Visma-Lease A Bike reached the goal after 195.5 kilometers ahead of the British Tom Pidcock (Q36.5) and the Portuguese João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) and thus his second day of the day of this year’s Vuelta. Vingegaard celebrated his 40th professional victory in the Spanish province of La Rioja.

The red jersey of the overall leader briefly defended the Norwegian Torstein Traeen (Bahrain Victorious). Traeen finished 1:50 minutes behind and is only 37 seconds in the overall classification before the two-time tour winner Vingegaard.

After the rest day, the tenth stage from Sendaviva to Puerto de Larra-Belagua follows with another mountain arrival on Tuesday. There, the struggle of the climbers for the day’s victory and valuable seconds in the overall classification goes into the next round.
