Villena Gears Up for “Golden Score princesa Rett” Judo Tournament: A Day of Sport and Solidarity
On October 25, the bullring in Villena, Spain, will transform into a vibrant judo mat, hosting the Solidarity judo Trophy “Golden Score Princesa Rett”. The tournament is spearheaded by the JUDO CAMV (Mamoru Villena Athletes Club), with crucial backing from the Villena City Council’s department of sports and the invaluable collaboration of the Rett Princess Association. For over a decade, this association has been a driving force behind research initiatives at the San Juan de Dios hospital in Barcelona, a leading national centre for understanding and treating this rare condition.
The Rett syndrome is a complex neurological disorder with a genetic basis, predominantly impacting young girls. It leads to a gradual decline in motor skills and the ability to speak. While a cure remains elusive, ongoing research and specialized therapies offer a beacon of hope for hundreds of families throughout Spain.

The princess Rett association, bolstered by the support of esteemed figures such as Sara Baras, Dani Rovira, and Eva González, has been a steadfast ally to affected families for more than ten years. They actively fund therapeutic programs, including hippotherapy, neurological physiotherapy, and dolphin-assisted therapy, all aimed at enhancing the quality of life for girls with Rett syndrome.
