The Minnesota Vikings still shot an apparently lost game with three touchdowns in the final quarter and conquered the Chicago Bears at the start of the NFL season. The 22-year-old JJ McCarthy led the Vikings to a 27:24 against the division rival in his first assignment. The Bears had the game under control until 17: 6 in the third quarter before Touchdowns by Justin Jefferson, Aaron Jones and McCarthy turned everything upside down. Previously, only two fields of Goals had succeeded in the guests.
“It is surreal,” said McCarthy, who also had an interception that had used the Bears directly for their own touchdown. “We just found ways. It’s the first game, there is a lot that we have to do better. But I’m really proud of how we reacted.”
For Ben Johnson, last season as a coach of the offensive for the success of the Detroit Lions and Amon-Ra St. Brown, the debut as a chief coach at the Bears failed. A later touchdown brought Chicago closer, but time was no longer enough for a real chance of winning.
Only the day before, the Buffalo Bills had provided a sensational comeback with three touchdowns and a total of 22 points in the final quarter and conquered the Baltimore Ravens 41:40.
