Vienna releases coach Mehmet Sütcü
First Vienna FC 1894 ended the collaboration with head coach Mehmet Sütcü. This decision was made together with the Presidium after frequent considerations and an in -depth analysis of the course of the season regarding the sporting performance of the men’s professional team. “This step was not easy for us, but we have to look ahead and quickly make decisions when we have the impression that the team does not bring the motivation and performance we know from it,” says President Kurt Svoboda. At the latest at the start of the training on Tuesday, the new head coach will be presented and take responsibility.
After five rounds in Admiral 2nd League, Austria’s oldest football club is first consequently consequently: two draws and two competitive defeat in the past games led to a comprehensive, sporting re -evaluation, the result of which was the separation from Mehmet Sütcü.
“Memo has worked in different functions, from young people to the amateurs to professional team, with professionalism, operational readiness and passion for the Vienna. To make such decisions are always difficult, especially because we have worked very closely in recent years. Although the way here at Vienna ends for Memo, I am sure that he will go out for his future tasks. The association now has to be given new impulses to find old strength again, ”says Sports director Andreas Ivanschitz.
In March 2024, Sütcü had taken the step from the coach of the amateurs to the chief coach of the professional team. Under his leadership, the Vienna reached the third place in the table in the same season before finishing fifth in the previous year. In the current season, the unexpected out of the Cup against Amstetten already came in round two. In the league, the team is currently in sixth place with eight points from five games.
President Svoboda: “The past few weeks have shown that our team needed new impulses so that we can achieve our goals for this season. It was a difficult but necessary decision. Sometimes it just doesn’t fit, which does not mean that we did not appreciate Mehmet Sütcü. Mehmet Sütcü has worked with great commitment, passion and high identification for Vienna in recent years.
