Florian Vermeersch has decided not to use the height rooms that the Belgian cycling association offers in preparation for the World Cup. The UAE rider opts for an alternative approach.
Vermeersch is part of the Belgian selection for the World Cycling Championship, which is taking place in Africa this year. In the run -up to the World Cup, he rode the Tour of Britain, together with Remco Evenepoel and Ilan van Wilder, among others.
He was satisfied with his participation in this stage race: “I have had a good week,” he said at Het Nieuwsblad. According to him, in the stages there was a decent racing and there was enough intensity without being overly heavy.
Conscious choice for competition rhythm
Participation in the Tour of Britain was not a training goal in itself for Vermeersch, but a way to maintain his rhythm. “No training was necessary,” he said, referring to earlier participations in the Tour of Poland and the Renewi Tour. With that he closed an intensive price block.
In contrast to some colleagues, Vermeersch, who is driving a World Cup for the first time, chooses not to make use of the height rooms made available by the Belgian Cycling Association. “I let that pass me by,” he said. His motivation is clear: he has already had three heights this season. “That should suffice,” he added.
Focus op hittetraining
In the remaining weeks before the World Cup, Vermeersch focuses on specific adjustments to the climate of host country Rwanda. He emphasized that heat training is now priority for him.
