From the perspective of Upper Austria, the association can be very proud of its players and their performance. Not only that the offspring showed (Elias Spitzhofer, Emil Auberger and Jonas Windauer). The performance of Katharina Ertl must be particularly highlighted with a 2nd place in the women’s singles. The only 13 year old played up and was able to surprise with their dynamic playing style during the tournament course.
The experienced players struck again in the adult area. Kai Niederhuber, Michael Schausberger, Wolfgang Giltt and Luca Froschauer played at the forefront and the other competitions.
Not all top players used all competitions to show strong services. Michael Schausberger was one of the few players who competed in all 3 competitions and also showed (1st place Mix, 2nd place HD, 5th place HE):
OeT: Thanks for your time, Michael. Are we starting with a question about your preparation for the coming season?
Msch: In addition to my 40h job, I took a badminton break for 1.5 months in the summer. It doesn’t work without sports, so I played a lot of beach volleyball and the like. We really got on again in August with intensive units in the club. With our newcomer Alexander Brogaard in particular, we were able to deliver hard units in the mix and individual that improved the quality of the game.
OeT: In relation to the elite tournament, what focus have you worked out?
Msch: For me in singles, the focus was on the offensive, in the mix we suddenly had 2 equivalent teams where we could get really intensive matches.
OeT: You won the mix with your partner Jana, in doubles you could win the very good 2nd place with Alexander. How was it in singles to meet him in the 1/4 final?
Msch: Alexander only came to us from Denmark a few weeks ago, but we have been able to train a lot in the past few days. At the age of 17 he is still a bit impatient in the game, I tried to use that against him. It was a hard 3-set game, with my performance I am also very rippling. But he was a tacking faster and therefore he deservedly won.
For the fact that the best players were at the start, I am also very, very satisfied with the 5th place in He!
OeT: The performance of the renowned players in all competitions is very very stable, how do you see the performance of the young players, we say under 19 years?
Msch: What particularly surprised me was the sense of community next to the square. All players from Upper Austria stood together and we were like a group. The achievements of all young players are impressive. Of course you could hope for more from the boys. But time plays for them. Kathi Ertl has set a strong signal, which is a very good advertising for us from Upper Austria.
OeT: Congratulations again on the successes at the Elite tournament, how do you go on now?
Msch: After my shoulder operation, the focus is now on fitness (strength, quick strength). Especially at the upcoming international tournaments in Croatia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, I would like to improve my achievements from last year. We still have a lot in mind in the mix.
For the Bundesliga, there can only be one goal for us (Sportunion Ohlsorf): a draw and a victory. With our newcomer Alexander Brogaard, the chances are almost never before.
