We have introduced the situation surrounding high school baseball, such as the “union teams” and “public high schools,” but this time we would like to discuss the “increase in university-affiliated high schools.”
The strength of the affiliated school is the existence of routes to affiliated universities.
Throughout spring and summer, the most wins at Koshien are Chukyo University Chukyo (Aichi), who have 58 wins in spring (4 wins), 79 wins in summer (7 wins), and Ryukoku University Heian (Kyoto), who has 43 wins in spring (1 win), 61 wins in summer (3 wins), and a total of 104 wins in total.
Chukyo University Chukyo was founded as Chukyo Commercial in 1923 and was one of the most powerful high schools, having won three consecutive summer titles and a consecutive summer and spring titles before the war. It was renamed Chukyo High School in 1967, but in 1995 it became Chukyo High School affiliated with Chukyo University, run by the same Umemura Gakuen school corporation.
Ryukoku University Heian was the predecessor of the Third Buddhist Junior High School, which was established in the Meiji period to educate children of Nishi Honganji temples, and became Heian Junior High School in 1910. This school was a strong school that had been a strong school since before the war, making its first appearance at Koshien in the summer of 1927 and won in 1938, but in 2008 it became a affiliated school of Ryukoku University, a school corporation similar to the Nishi Honganji-affiliated school, and in 2015 it merged into a business management high school run by Ryukoku University.
Both of these companies are apparently working together and business integration with universities, which they had originally had a close relationship with. In this way, there have been other cases where former Koshien-competing schools have become part of the university’s umbrella or are named after the university.
・Rang Shang (Osaka) → 1989 Osaka Sports Dalang Shang
・Uji (Kyoto) → 1994 Ritsumeikan Uji
・Hokuyo (Osaka) → 2008 Kansai University Kitayo
For private high schools, becoming a university umbrella has many benefits. By joining the umbrella of a larger school corporation, management support can be expected. Additionally, by bringing the name of the university, it will be possible to recruit students who make use of this “brand.”
In the case of the baseball club, other benefits include being able to use university grounds and practice facilities, and being able to receive indirect guidance from university students and university instructors.
Furthermore, it is possible to routes such as recommending admission to affiliated universities and enrolling through AO entrance exams, so high school applicants can also appeal to “they are promised to go to university.”
The instructor at a private school affiliation high school is
“Almost all of our athletes have been decided to go to the university above, so we study for school, but we don’t have to study for the entrance exam, so we can concentrate on practicing.”
He talks. There are great benefits to becoming a university-affiliated high school.
