Valentijn Driessen van de Telegraaf gives hard criticism of John Heitinga in the kick-off-podcast and the people who put together the current selection. According to him, Ajax now lacks traditional ‘Ajax football’, which is not only due to the trainer but especially the transfers that Alex Kroes and Marijn Beuker have done. Driessen states that although Heitinga is instructed to play offensively, he does not have the right material to make that happen.

He mentions the summer transfer period a failure of the management and the technical staff: a skewed selection with, among other things, five left -handed -ups, no real right back, a weak left back and a midfield that does not function. According to Driessen, that results in a game image in which even clubs like NAC have more possession in the enemy half than Ajax. The conclusion is that both the management and the compilers of the team bear responsibility for the current sporting shortage.
