German Junior Badminton Stars Shine at Belgian Junior 2025, Snagging Silver and Three Bronzes
Herstal, Belgium – The future of German badminton is looking bright, as the DBV (German Badminton Association) team showcased their talent and grit at the Belgian Junior 2025, held from September 19-21. After a summer break, these young athletes returned to the international stage with a vengeance, clinching an extraordinary haul of one silver and three bronze medals.
The standout performance came from the women’s doubles pairing of Leonie Wronna and Gloria Poluectov. While Wronna typically partners with Shreya Hochscheid, Hochscheid’s absence saw Poluectov step in. This new partnership proved to be a formidable force, as they battled their way to the finals. Their toughest challenge, as expected, was the top-seeded French duo. In a nail-biting three-set thriller, Wronna and Poluectov narrowly missed out on gold but secured a well-deserved silver medal.

praised youngsters’ coach Dirk Nötzel. Losing by such a small margin against the top seeds is a testament to their skill and determination.
Adding to the women’s doubles success, Maike Iffland and Kalliope Hermel also delivered a strong showing. After impressive runs to the semifinals, they faced the eventual finalists from France. Despite a valiant effort, they ultimately fell 18-21, 14-21, earning a commendable bronze medal.
Gloria Poluectov continued to impress in the women’s singles, demonstrating her solid form with two decisive victories to reach the quarterfinals. There, she met her match in the eventual tournament winner, Tseng I from Taiwan. Despite a brave performance,Poluectov was ultimately defeated 17-21,11-21.
In the men’s doubles, Fynn Ohliger and Linus Emmerich proved they could compete at the highest international level.They engaged in a gripping semifinal duel against the French pair Rayan Beinaissa and Leon Phan. The match was a seesaw battle, ultimately decided by the narrowest of margins, with the German duo losing 19-21, 21-19, 20-22. Their efforts were rewarded with a well-earned bronze medal.
The mixed doubles also saw success for Ohliger, who partnered with Maike Iffland to reach the semifinals. Once again, the formidable French duo of Rayan Beinaissa and Manon Heitzmann stood in their way. The German pair fought hard but ultimately lost 19-21, 13-21, securing the team’s third bronze medal of the tournament.
Federal base coach for youth, Dirk Nötzel, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. For almost all of our players, this was a really good start after the holidays,
he stated. many asserted themselves against strong international competition and gained vital experiences.
The overall balance of the weekend is undeniably positive: one silver,three bronze medals,and numerous closely contested matches against some of Europe’s top young talent.
