The Timberwolves come out of a disillusionment against the Thunder in the Western Conference final. Despite a solid course, the franchise remains in the shadow of its rivals and must now think about the next step to definitively take a CAP. The leaders know that the shooting window is not eternal and that an adjustment could impose itself.
Mike Conley has brought stability and experience in recent seasons, but the former All-Star is approaching the end of his career. Minnesota could therefore soon need a more sustainable solution to the lead, capable of accompanying Anthony Edwards for the coming years. Speculations are already going well with a possible external arrival.
Jon Krawczynski DE The Athletic Consider that the Wolves will not hesitate to act in the event of an opportunity: “What I know is that if the point of leader is not solidified and the rest of the team is ready for a new epic in playoffs, Connelly will not hesitate to trigger a big transfer. This is how he built these wolves, and it will not stop now ”. Among the tracks mentioned, the name of’aron Fox, currently in Spurs, returns with insistent.
A risky but potentially decisive bet
Krawczynski even added: “Maybe the Spurs would let go of Aaron Fox if things are not going well there, even if finances make me think. Perhaps also that one of the Jones brothers could be accessible in Chicago or Orlando ”. The idea of associating Fox with Edwards seduces on paper, and would immediately place Minnesota among the favorites for the title.
On the San Antonio side, the situation remains ambiguous. Fox extended its lease with a colossal contract of 229 million over four years and seems to be installed as a central part alongside Victor Wembanyama. However, the selection of Dylan Harper with the second choice of the Draft 2025, as well as the presence of Stephon Castle, rookie of the year, could change the situation in the medium term.
The Timberwolves will follow the situation closely. Fox remains one of the most effective scorers in the league, with 23.5 points and 6.3 passes on average last season. His profile would perfectly fill Minnesota’s needs and offer a leading outdoor duo with Edwards.
It remains to be seen if the Spurs will agree to open the door. The Texan franchise enters a new era with Mitch Johnson on the bench and could prefer to build in the long term around its young rear. In any case, if Fox were to be available, the list of suitors would be particularly long.
