The new Sport Arena Vienna on Handelskai was opened on Saturday with an all -day festival. Around 7,000 guests took the opportunity to get to know the facility and try out various sports at several hands -on stations.
The program included activities such as volleyball, basketball, handball, athletics, badminton, kendo and rings as well as a stage program with show performances and interviews.
The multifunctional hall was officially opened in the presence of representatives of the city of Vienna and various sports associations. The Sport Arena offers a total of 13,000 square meters of sports fields on three halls and is to be used for training and competition operations of different disciplines in the future.
In addition to flexible grandstands and modern exercises, attention was also paid to sustainability when building the hall. The Sport Arena Vienna is the first energy -neutral project of this kind in Austria. The new infrastructure is to enable around 38,000 hours of use annually, a significant increase compared to the previous situation.
Sportstadtrat Peter Hacker It was enthusiastic about the opening: “The mood and the great rush were overwhelming. You can feel how much Vienna used this Sport Arena Vienna – and how much energy and joy is released here. The Sport Arena Vienna is open, inclusive and top modern. A place where sport is lived and celebrated.”
Anatol RichterHead of Sport Wien (MA 51), also said: “The opening showed what the Sport Arena Vienna stands for: movement, encounter and enthusiasm. With 13,000 m² of sports areas and three halls, we create reliable training times and space for competitions – efficient, sustainable and user -friendly in everyday life. The bright eyes of the children at the opening were the best evidence that we are on the right track.”
