Defending champion Spain surprisingly ruled out in the preliminary round at the 2025 basketball European Championship.
In the final group game in Limassol in Cyprus, the Spanish team is subject to Greece with 86:90 (35:51) and surprisingly misses the move into the KO round.
Although the Spaniards start to catch up in the second half and take the lead in the meantime, it is not enough for victory.
The last ticket goes to Georgia
Greece, led by NBA superstar Giannis Antetocounmpo, secures first place in Group C. Antetokounmpo with this success with 25 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists.
For Spain, this is the first preliminary round out of a basketball European Championship since the introduction of the current tournament format. The team ends up in fifth place in Group D, behind Greece, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Georgia with three defeats in five games.
The last round of 16 marks goes to Georgia, which loses 76:84 in the direct duel with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
