Her trainer Thomas Diethart describes the situation as the “worst thing that can happen.” He emphasized that Pinkelnig is still in shock and that the scope of the injury is difficult to assess. “You saw it ended up and the knee gave in. This is usually not a good sign,” said Diethart. The dramatic events cloud the mood in the Austrian team considerably.
Eva Pinkelnig is not a newcomer when it comes to setbacks. Already in 2016 she suffered a traumatic brain trauma after a fall in Nizhny Tagil. In 2020, she contracted a life -threatening spleen tear in a training fall. Despite these serious injuries, she fought back and won the 2022/23 World Cup. This resilience made her an admired figure in the ski jump.
However, the current fall could mean a new dimension in your career. At the age of 37, Pinkelnig is faced with the challenge of recovering from a serious injury again.
