Serbia & Latvia: ECH Tournament Qualification

The Latvian men’s basketball team on Monday in Riga, following a victory in the European Championship (EC) group tournament over the Czech Republic, secured third place in Group A and entering the playoffs.

Serbia won the Czech Republic with 82:60 (27: 5, 18:18, 16:20, 21:17).

The winners were Filip Petrushev 13 points, while Nikola Milutinov scored 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Czechs scored nine points by Jaromir Bohachik and Jan Zīdek, who also had five rebounds in their account.

It has already been reported that in Group A in Riga, Turkey beat Estonia with 84:64 on Monday and the Latvian team with 78:62 – Portugal.

Turkey and Serbia have four wins in four matches in four matches, but Latvia has two successes, securing a place in the elimination tournament games for all three teams. Estonia and Portugal have one win, but the Czech Republic has lost in all four matches and has already lost the chance to qualify for the semi -finals.

The Latvian national team will meet the Czech Republic in the last game of Group A on Wednesday.

In Group B, four wins were celebrated by Germany, three in Lithuania and Finland, one by one by Montenegro and Sweden, but the United Kingdom has lost in all four matches. It is with the second place in this group that the Latvian team will play the eighth final.

In the European Championship Finals, 24 teams in four groups play in Riga, Tampere, Katowice and Limassol at the end of August and early September. The top four teams will qualify for the playoffs in Riga, finding out the medal winners in the first half of September. Groups A and B as well as Groups C and D will meet in the semifinals.
