Werder Bremen’s Senne Lynen in an interview: “Werder is just a big club – and it is a lot of fun playing here”

Mr. Lynen, have Peter Niemeyer and Clemens Fritz actually offered you a job as a Werder manager for the time after your career?

(laughs) No, not yet. I am only 26 years old and hope to be able to stand as a player for a few years.

The question aimed at the fact that both Victor Boniface and Cameron Puertas reported that they had contact with them before they change. Since then they have been called “Agent Lynen” by fans. Do you like this nickname?

I already understand why this is seen from the outside, but it’s a bit exaggerated. It is true that I had contact with both boys beforehand, but that’s not unusual. If I were about to switch to a new club myself, where I already know someone, I would also write beforehand. Both names came from Peter and Clemens, it was not that I had suggested the players. When it became more concrete, those responsible spoke to me – and then I called both on the phone.

What did you make you tasty for you?

Especially with the fact that it is a very familiar association where there is always something going on. I like it when there is no “dead” mood. The stadium is always full here, and there are always an incredible number of fans away. Werder is just a big club – and it is a lot of fun playing here.

Werder Bremen’s Senne Lynen in an interview about Victor Boniface: “He is a calm character and a very relaxed guy who lives without stress”

How special for you is it to be able to collect Boniface and Puertas again with your former Gilloise teammates?

It was a strange feeling to suddenly see the boys on the Werder jersey (smiles). Usually there is rare reunion in football. Of course I am very happy because they are good boys with whom I always got on well. I think it’s great that you are here now.

Victor Boniface is already well known in the Bundesliga as a striker. What kind of type is he away from the lawn?

He is a calm character and a very relaxed guy who lives without stress. He is rather quiet in the cabin, does his job and goes home. That has always been the case – even then in Belgium. It is simply pleasant and relaxed with him.

You once described it as a “church tower” many years ago. How disgusting is it to defend against him?

Maybe a little easier for me because I already know his special movements well (laughs). It is very large and strong, but at the same time incredibly fast on his feet. He makes movements that defenders often do not expect. Sometimes he has a few unusual dribbles on it. It is technically extremely strong for its size.

Cameron Puertas, on the other hand, have seen few fans and observers from Germany-what kind of footballer can the Werder fans look forward to?

Cameron is particularly strong in standards and collects many scorer points. In addition, he often looks for the conclusion of outside the penalty area. He is a game type that recognizes opportunities that others may not see. Sometimes he shoots out of positions where you think: that doesn’t work at all – and then he meets. He is determined to the goal and brave in his game.

Werder Bremen’s Senne Lynen in an interview: “We have a very good and competitive squad”

Among other things, through the two transfers, the euphoria around Werder is again great. But there was also a statement from them after the game in Frankfurt that you have to worry if nothing happens on the transfer market. Did you really have concerns at this time?

No, I wasn’t worried. I was always convinced that something would still happen. Now I’m very excited and I look forward to seeing how it will be when we come together for the first time in the new constellation. It really starts for us now.

Was there the idea of all the injuries in preparation: “That shouldn’t be true …”?

Of course we also exchanged it internally. There are always seasons in which injuries occur frequently – and then again years in which hardly anything happens. As it went in this preparation, I have actually not yet experienced it in my career.

Many call Werder from the outside as a surprise bag – also because of the many late new additions. What do you think: What is possible with this team this season?

This is still difficult to assess at the present time. For example, I don’t know the boys like Yuki (Yukinari Sugawara, editor’s note) or Isaac (Schmidt, note of the editor), because they only came to us shortly before the Leverkusen game. It is important that we get to know each other as a team quickly. In any case, it is positive that we now have a very good and competitive squad.

Werder Bremen’s Senne Lynen in an interview: “For me, the Weser Stadium is simply insane” for me “

You extended your contract early in the summer and shortly afterwards said that Werder is “a feeling” for you. Can you describe this feeling a little more specific?

For me, this means that everything is available here to be successful. For me, the Weser Stadium is simply insane. My friends and family are very happy every time they come to a game. Werder is a large club that has celebrated great success in the past. The prerequisites are definitely there – and that’s why it feels special for me.

Would you say Werder is already the most beautiful and most successful station in your career?

Yes, you can say that. I also experienced beautiful things with Union Saint-Gilloise, but Werder is a bit about it for me.

Has Bremen already become home to you?

Home is difficult to say because I come from Antwerp, and that is the most beautiful city for me. But I definitely feel very comfortable here with my family. If I go to Antwerp to my parents during the international break, it is still a very special feeling of “coming home”.

Do your wife and daughter actually live with you in Bremen permanently?

Most of the time. When we have away games, they are more common at home. In addition, my wife is currently pregnant and the birth is planned in Belgium. That’s why she is not here with my daughter for a few weeks now.

Werder Bremen’s Senne Lynen in an interview about life as a father: “For me it is the most beautiful thing that is in this world”

They speak to it: In October they will be father for the second time – this time by a son. How big is the anticipation of the sleepless nights?

(laughs) Fortunately, it wasn’t that bad with my daughter, so we hardly had any problems with sleep. We are just very excited about the offspring and are very happy when things start soon. As with my daughter, there will of course also be a Werder jersey for the little one.

What does it mean to be a father?

It just changes everything. You look very different. We live for our children. Before that, you are always the most important thing, but as soon as you have children, it completely shifts. It is crazy about what happens in the head – for me it is the most beautiful thing that is in this world.

Back to football: In summer they were about to nomination for the Belgian national team. What is the current contact with the national coach?

We had a short contact in the summer because there was the opportunity to move up. But that didn’t work. There was no further exchange before the current international break.

What would it mean to you to play for the Belgian national team?

It is actually not bigger. That would mean everything to me. If that should happen, it would be a dream dream for me.

Many international top stars play in the Belgian eleven. Do you think you have to play European nomination with Werder?

I don’t think it is absolutely necessary. But if you play internationally, at some point you probably won’t get past it (laughs). But that is not decisive. The quality in the Bundesliga is high enough to recommend itself.

Werder Bremen’s Senne Lynen in an interview, about his goallessness: “Now it is also time that one goes in with me”

Since they were at Werder, it has been step by step upwards: Ninth place, then eighth – so seventh would have to follow now, right?

(laughs) Good attempt. We definitely want to get the maximum out of this team. It is fun that we currently have so much fresh wind in the team. Of course we want to achieve the best, but first we have to come together as a new team and develop common energy. Then I am excited to see where we are at the end.

Finally, a look at the score: against Leverkusen, they almost came to their first goal for Werder. Her header landed on the latte, Karim Coulibaly dusted. Did you still annoy yourself a little?

Only briefly. Actually, I set the ball well against the direction of the goalkeeper, but he just didn’t want to lower and therefore only went to the crossbar. Nevertheless, of course I was also very happy for Karim that he scored his goal-in his debut game he experienced as much as others in 30 years (laughs). But of course it is also time that someone goes in with me.

Do you feel that it will be that far this season?

Yes, I am convinced of that. If, contrary to expectations, it does not happen, then I have to give the team back something else – what exactly, I would have to think about. But to be honest, I don’t even deal with it because I am sure that the goal will fall. (BVO)
