The tennis world list of Aryna Sabalenka has her title at the US Open defended. The 27-year-old defeated the American Amanda Anisimova 6: 3, 7: 6 (7: 3) in the final. For Sabalenka it was the fourth Grand Slam triumph of her career.
Anisimova played powerfully from the first ball change and was able to dream of winning the first set after the break. Sabalenka, however, grew up, while Anisimova’s risk books ended up increasingly in the end or online. The first set was over after 39 minutes.
Anisimova then got the break to 5: 5. Ultimately, despite the vocal support of the spectators, she had to recognize the strength of her opponent, who won a tie -break for the 19th time in a row.
The title defense in New York was recently successful Williams
A two -set victory of Sabalenka did not seem to be a matter of course in advance. Anisimova had won six of the previous nine duels, most recently in the semi -finals of Wimbledon. However, with her 100th coaching success in Grand-Slam tournaments, she confirmed her leadership role in the world rankings. Serena Williams recently managed the title defense in New York in 2014.
Anisimova lost to Arthur Ashe Stadium in her second major final. 56 days earlier, she had lost 0: 6, 0: 6 against IGA Swiadek in the final of Wimbledon. This time 1:34 hours passed before the match was decided.
Anisimova, born in New Jersey, had spoken of the “run of my life” after her success in the quarter and semi-finals. Sabalenka stopped her fairytale ascent at least temporarily. In the world rankings, it will still be fourth in fourth place and thus climbed more than ever.
