PSV & Vitesse: KNVB’s Talent Mystery

PSV, other clubs, former Vitesse talents and their parents are currently awaiting a final decision of the KNVB about their transfer to Eindhoven club. That situation causes a lot of tension, it outlines Eindhovens Dagblad.

After Vitesse lost her professional license, all youth players were free to leave. Without a transfer amount or youth allowance, the talents could continue their career at another club. But Vitesse has had the professional license back since last week, which has changed the situation. Many things have now been reversed, so that ‘many dozens of Vitesse youth players’ in the dark and not knowing where they stand.

Six of these Vitesse talents were about to make the switch to PSV. Vitesse is now entitled to a sum of money for five of these players, but many clubs do not want or cannot pay those reimbursements. In the case of PSV, only three players were found to be good enough to pay for a fee, the other two times now back to Vitesse. “Of course that is rock hard for them. Players are already mentally at a new club and have to go back now. We have discussed this with the parents and said that this was a possibility,” says Aloys Wijnker, head of youth education of PSV.

According to the guidelines of the KNVB, players must make the switch from Club before 15 June. A special arrangement applied for Vitesse players, so there was time until last Thursday. Yet many players do not yet have any clarity about their future. “Children have not been playing football for a long time now and we are waiting for the green light from the KNVB. It is a mystery to me why that is not coming,” says Wijnker.
