Ohtani’s Surprise Start: 3⅔ Scoreless Innings

Shohei Ohtani had an unexpected start on the field and threw three 2/3 Shutout-Internings, despite the Los Angeles Dodgers, the fourth defeat in a row. The Baltimore Orioles won the game 2-1.

Ohtani, whose planned start had to be canceled a few days earlier due to a breast -inflammation, stepped in for Tyler Glasnow, who suffered from back tension. The Two-Way star achieved five strikeouts while allowed three hits and a walk in a 70-pitch assignment in Oriol Park.

Even the Japanese baseball star Ohtani could not turn away the defeat

After he had approved a single in the second and third inning, Ohtani, who achieved a top speed of 101.5 miles per hour (approx. 163 km/h) at his throws, stood in the fourth inning before his biggest challenge when Ryan Mountcastle opened the inning with a double and reached the third base through a wild pitch.

The Japanese right-handed man hit Colton Cowser with a Full Count Four Seamer and Emmanuel Rivera with a 1-2-Sweeper before he was replaced by Anthony Banda who ended the inning.

“I was in good shape. I wanted to throw the full four innings,” said Ohtani, who won his first victory since his elbow operation in September 2023 on his last mission.

“I tried to get in touch in order to stay in the inning as long as possible, but the number of throws increased.”

A solo homerun by Freddie Freeman in the sixth inning equalized the game for the Dodgers to 1-1, but a solo homerun by Samuel Basallo in the ninth inning gave the Orioles the victory, while Ohtani remained 0 out of 3.
