New Law Confusion: Legality Questions & Updates

“Never seen anything like” – revolutionary pills launched

Researchers have produced a “super pill” against high blood pressure.

The tablet is described as a “gamechanger” and a “scientific triumph”, reports The Guardian with reference to the global study Baxhtn,

Today, more than 1.3 billion people suffer from high blood pressure. Half of them do not respond to existing treatments.

However, the new pill Baxdrostat significantly lowers blood pressure in people who have had dangerous levels even though they are taking several drugs.

“I have never experienced that a drug has led to blood pressure reductions of this order of magnitude,” says Bryan Williams, head of the British Heart Foundation and the main responsible for the study, to The Guardian.

– I think this can be revolutionary for how we can treat hard -controlled blood pressure. The results indicate that this drug can help up to half a billion people, he continues.

Therefore, it works

The new drug stops the production of the hormone aldosterone. Aldosterone provides an increased amount of sodium and water in the blood that raises blood pressure. When the production of the hormone is stopped, blood pressure drops significantly.

– Aldosterone is a well -known cause of high blood pressure, but for decades researchers have struggled to block its production in an exact way. Baxdrostat is one of the first treatments to do so, says Bryan Williams.

– This drug is a scientific triumph.

Facts: High blood pressure

– Blood pressure is the pressure that occurs in the arteries when the blood is pumped out of the heart. The pressure is at its highest when the heart pulls together and empties (the systolic pressure) and as lowest when it rests between the contractions (the diastolic pressure). Normal blood pressure is considered to be below 140 mmHg for the systolic pressure and below 90 mmHg for the diastolic pressure.

– High blood pressure generally gives no symptoms. It is only at really high blood pressure that one can get clearer symptoms, such as severe fatigue, nausea, severe headaches and shortness of breath. It is therefore important to regularly have their blood pressure.

– Between 2004 and 2024, the proportion of young adults aged 16–29 reporting that they have high blood pressure has doubled, from 2.7 percent to 5.5 percent even among the population in general, the proportion with high blood pressure has risen in recent decades. 38 percent of Swedes have high blood pressure

– High blood pressure is the most important cause of death and lost year of life.
