New York (AP) – NBA players can perform long -distance shots to finish periods without their shooting percentages being negatively affected.
During the meeting of the Board of Governors of the League on Wednesday they approved a change in the way in which the statistics of these shots are recorded, which could motivate the players to try more launches from much, far away with the hope of a miraculous shot.
The change of rule was tested in the summer league in Las Vegas in July, as well as in the smallest leagues that month in Utah and California.
For statistical registration purposes, the NBA will inform the teams that any shot more than 36 feet in any play that starts from the other side of the court and that is carried out in the last three seconds of the first three periods will tell as an attempt to shoot the team, but not individual.
Many players have avoided making the miraculous shot of 50 feet or more at the end of the rooms to protect their personal percentages of shooting. The League expects the “launch rule” to solve that.
According to Sportradar, last season the players succeeded around 4% of the shots made in the last three seconds of the first three quarters of a game with the minimum distance of 36 feet. Based on his follow -up data, Stephen Curry by Golden State made four shots under those criteria last season and Nikola Jokic of Denver Tres.
Change in the semifinal of the NBA Cup
The NBA Cup, which has had a Final Four format for its semifinals and final in Las Vegas, will change in the 2026-27 season.
The League decided that the semifinals will be played in the local team of the team with the best classification at each conference from next season. The final – which does not count on the record of any of the teams – will continue to be disputed in a neutral headquarters.
Adjusting to the coach’s challenge
The Board approved a change in the challenges of the coaches from this season.
During the review after a challenge of a rape of outside limits, the repetition center officer – not the team leader – “will determine whether to have called a close foul,” said the league.
The NBA argued that it will accelerate the review times.
Last season it was the first in which the referees could determine whether to have called a close fault in certain plays. The change was unanimously recommended by the Competition Committee and the League Office.
