Doubts about the authenticity of James articles in Staatszeitung

In China’s state “Volkszeitung” there is an article that NBA star LeBron James is said to have written. But is the text really from him?

There are doubts about the authenticity of an article under the name of the US basketball player LeBron James in China’s “Volkszeitung”. According to American media, the star player did not write the text. James only made statements about basketball in China for media rounds, reported the AP news agency and the newspaper “New York Times”, citing the Superstar area from the Los Angeles Lakers.

The text published in the sports part under James’ name had caused astonishment. In 2019, the NBA was under pressure in China when the then manager of the Houston Rockets, Daryl Morey, expressed his support for the Protemocratic protests in the Chinese special administrative region of Hong Kong.

Maue years for NBA in China

The central government in Beijing was upset. China’s state television then no longer transferred NBA games until 2022. The league, one of the most important US culture exports in China, lost sponsorship contracts. According to reports, the damage may have been hundreds of million US dollars.
