MoI Athletes Visit Border Guard College

On September 4, professional athletes of the Sports Department of the Ministry of the Interior Health and Sports Department visited the State Border Guard College: Mārtiņš Plaviņš, Kristian Fokerot, Antonijs de Anželis and Vsevolod Zelonon Judo School coach Oscar Brauhbars.

The aim of the athlete’s visit was to lead classes and share their professional experience in beach volleyball and judo.

The guests were greeted by Colonel Marik Petrušin, Director of the State Border Guard College. In his address, the director emphasized that sporting activities and good physical fitness are important not only in everyday life, but also one of the main prerequisites for successfully performing the duties of service. The Colonel invited cadets to actively participate in classes and to maximize the knowledge and skills provided by professional athletes.

Latvian athletes told about the daily work of training, competition experience and the importance of sports in an active lifestyle. It was a unique opportunity for cadets of the State Border Guard College to gain new knowledge and practical skills from professionals in their industry by trying out exercises in each of the sports.

At the end of the visit, the guests went on a tour of the Border Guard Museum to find out the most important events in the history of the Border Guard. The athletes also left the wish names in the museum’s guest book, wishing the State Border Guard a more strong and durable border guard, who in the future will take care of the secure guard of the state border.
