Menzo Confronts Fans Over Racial Slurs | El Salvador Football

The World Cup qualifying match between Suriname and El Salvador is marred by racism, says the national team of Suriname. Nationality Did won 1-2, but for 90 minutes the players were treated racist from the stands of Estadio Cuscatlán. That let national coach Stanley Menzo and captain Shaquille Pinas know afterwards during the press conference.

The coach was asked about the behaviors of his team for outcome. The Salvadorans were not happy with the way Suriname celebrated the victory. “You should ask why your fans called ‘Negro’ to my players”, Menzo is visibly irritated.

Pinas said it is not the first time that fans of El Salvador are guilty of racism. According to him, it was also hit during the meeting in June. “I am very angry. I have been quiet for 180 minutes and two games, but now I have to say something about it. If you say things like ‘black’ and ‘monkey’, that is not fun.”

The national coach praises the way his team appeared, even though they were called ‘monkey’ and ‘black’ from the stands. “It wasn’t fun what the audience shouted, but I am proud of my players.”

Suriname took a big step in El Salvador to the World Cup in 2026. Nationality is currently a leader in the group and has four games on the program. The next international match period awaits in October and then Panama and Guatemala are the opponents.
