The sports world is mourning the loss of a dedicated figure whose impact resonated deeply within women’s football. Our thoughts are with Matt’s family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Matt was more then just a skilled technician; he was a person of exceptional integrity and warmth, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. His contributions to the game, notably in developing talent and fostering winning cultures, will be remembered with genuine affection.
A Legacy Forged in Championship Triumphs
Matt’s journey in women’s football began with a notable tenure at LFC Women, starting in 2012. During this period, he was instrumental in building a powerhouse team that secured back-to-back Women’s Super League titles in 2013 and 2014. His leadership also guided the club through its inaugural Champions League campaign, a testament to his ambition and strategic vision.
His experience extended across the Atlantic, including a stint with the Boston Breakers in the United States. This international exposure undoubtedly broadened his perspective, which he later brought back to English football. He then spent two years with West Ham United Women, navigating the competitive landscape and even reaching a Women’s FA Cup final in 2019 before moving to Bristol City Women.
