Carried by his discipline and the energy of his players, the Basket club of the Malagasy company in Vanilla saw a dream awake in the national phase 2 championship, final phase currently in Antananarivo.
Founded in 2016 in Antalaha for a simple neighborhood tournament and promoted to N1A in 2024, the Basket Club Somava already established itself as a team that counts and quickly took off.
Three years of experience enabled the club to get bogged down before entering the N1B in 2019. Five seasons later, in July 2024, the award arrived: a historic N1A accession, symbol of hard work and solid supervision. From a neighborhood tournament to the national elite, BC Somava progresses and impresses.
Behind this progression are passionate leaders and patrons: the Strawberry brothers, honorary presidents, Benoît Leroy, president, and Mamy Razafindraibe, known as “Mamy Dada”, vice-president.

Together, they built a professional structure which today gives the club a rare identity and stability. Their credo? Fair-play and discipline, two values that the team displays on and off the field.
Since entering the elite, BC Somava has imposed his signature. In Mahajanga, during phase 1 disputed in May, the club signed three victories in five matches, including a wide success 97-54 against NGB Itasy.
This dynamic continued in Antananarivo for the final phase. Antalaha players have garnered three new successes: 68-61 against Asb Itasy, 79-64 against SBC Vakinankaratra and 119-88 against 619 generation of Menabe. Their unique misstep is a defeat against Ascut Atsinanana (80-91).
Solidarity and ambitious
With these results, BC Somava made a place in the quarterfinals, beyond its initial maintenance objective. “We have already exceeded the primary ambition, that of staying in N1A. From now on, we aim to look good in the coming matches, “says Mamy Razafindraibe, visibly proud of his team’s journey.
The club is based on an united workforce, embodied by players like Elie Clark Ravoajanahary, Erasto Tombozara and Patrick Randriamananasoa, supported by complementary teammates. No outside player has yet been recruited, but management does not exclude strengthening the workforce in the future to compete with the best training in the capital.
Behind the successes of BC Somava also hides a philosophy: representing the region of Antalaha with dignity while proving that a club from the province can shine at the national summit.
With its ascending trajectory, its passionate supervision and the energy of its players, BC Somava is already one of the beautiful revelations of Malagasy basketball.
