Max Verstappen secured a dominant victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, marking his second consecutive win and signaling a strong resurgence in the world championship battle. However, fellow competitor Charles Leclerc remains skeptical about Red Bull’s overall dominance, suggesting the team isn’t quite there yet.
Red Bull Racing has experienced a critically important turnaround in recent months. After a period were Verstappen struggled to contend for wins and teammate Yuki Tsunoda found himself at the back of the pack, the team has shown marked improvement. This upward trend, which began after the summer break, has seen verstappen clinch victories in Monza and Baku, while rivals like McLaren have faced challenges.
Leclerc Questions Red Bull’s Dominance
Charles Leclerc of ferrari found himself unable to challenge for a podium finish in Azerbaijan. While acknowledging Verstappen’s impressive performance, Leclerc expressed doubts about Red Bull’s sustained title contention. He stated,I don’t think Max will leave something, that is certain. I think they have taken a big step forward with the car and that they are now also at a very strong level.
“Max is Simply Performing Better”
Leclerc also highlighted mclaren’s performance, which he believes is still the benchmark. He elaborated, McLaren has not had a very flexible weekend here, not the last two racing weekends, so I don’t think Red Bull is suddenly dominating again. I think it is very close together between McLaren and Red Bull, but max is doing a little better at the moment. So my congratulations go to him.
Despite the recent successes, Verstappen currently sits third in the world championship standings with 255 points. He trails championship leader Oscar Piastri by 69 points, who has accumulated 324 points.
