The first four games of the Latvian Basketball Cup will take place on Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday at 7.30 pm “Daugavpils Sports School” will host “Kekava” in Daugavpils KSC Hall, but at 8 pm “Bauska” will compete with “Tukums” unit at Iecava Elementary School.

On Friday at 8 pm, “Basketball Class Valka”/BJSS will compete in Valka Sports Hall with “Sigulda”/”Mapri Buve”, as well as Jekabpils BA Jekabpils Sports Hall will host the Talsi team.

Ten national league teams and two regional league teams are involved in the first round, divided into six pairs and the winners will be determined by the sum of two games. The first round games are scheduled for October 6.

In the first pair, without the game, Gulbene Buki/BJSS will be held, the second pair will meet “Saldus” and “Riga Stradins University” (RSU)/”VEF Riga”, the third – “Basketball class Valka”/BJSS and Sigulda/Mapri Buve, fourth – Jekabpils BA and “Talsi”. In the second round, the Salaspils Sports School will enter the second round, the seventh will be Cēsis/Cēsis Sports School and Riga Juniors, and in the eighth – Bauska/Līdums and Tukums/TSS.

In the second round, the Gulbene Buki/BJSS will meet with the University of Latvia (LU), the winners of the second duel with Jelgava, the third duel with Ventspils and the fourth duel with Ogri.

The winners of the first round of the first round will play with “Riga Zeļļi”, the sixth pair in the second round of the Salaspils Sports School will meet with “Liepaja”, the winners of the seventh first round – with “VEF Riga” and the eighth with “Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzeme University College” team. As the VEF Riga and Ventspils teams are drawn in the opposite branches, they can only meet in the finals.

In the second round, the winners will be determined in one game. The tournament will be attended by seven Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL) representatives, 13 National Basketball League (NBL) teams and two in the third league or regional Basketball League (RBL) team. The final will take place on February 21st.

For the fourth year in a row, VEF Riga triumphed in the Latvian Cup, which won the Ventspils team in the final with 96:81. The Latvian Cup for men’s teams resumed in 2021 after a 27 -year break.
