The quarter of commands by Washington Jayden Daniels will miss the Sunday match against Las Vegas Raiders due to a left knee injury.
It will be his first absence since his arrival in the NFL last season.
“He was simply not yet at the level,” said the head coach, Dan Quinn. We said we were going to be very vigilant when we returned. So we are going to be intelligent. This player wants to do everything, all the time. This is what he is as a competitor, and I love it. »»
For a third consecutive day, Daniels could not train fully on Friday. He was not on the ground with the rest of the team during the part of the training open to the media.
Marcus Mariota will replace him in the training and will carry out his first departure since 2022 with the Falcons of Atlanta.
Mariota, the second choice of the 2015 draft after winning the Heisman trophy in Oregon, came into play in three games to replace Daniels last season.
“The advantage is that we have accumulated points with Marcus. Do you see what I mean? Honestly, for me, nothing really changes. Obviously, Jayden is an essential element of our attack and our team. It is one of our leaders. We are better with him on the ground, ”said Terry McLaurin receiver.
“But at the same time, the game plan remains the same with Marcus,” added McLaurin. They have similarities in terms of mobility. No one is like Jayden outside the cover, but Marcus has the capacity to extend the games. And thanks to his maturity, but also to his sense of game, he brings to our attack a calm which, in my opinion, really stands out. »»
Daniels missed training on Wednesday and Thursday because of his injury and wore a left leg splint in the locker room.
Quinn refused to give more details concerning his quarter which was injured during the 27-18 defeat against Green Bay packers in the second week. Daniels underwent four quarters of the quarter.
“We are really encouraged by the progress made,” said Quinn on Friday.
Daniels followed a rehabilitation and carried out movement exercises and launching alone this week, but Quinn said he wanted to see him participate in training with his teammates before letting him play.
Mariota was put to rest during the training camp and this year’s preparatory calendar due to tendonitis in Achilles tendon and said he has been back to normal for a few weeks.
“He masters our match plan perfectly,” concluded Quinn.
