James „Jim“ Gavin, Irish Séamus Ó Gáivin (* July 1, 1971 in Clondalkin, County South Dublin), is an Irish politician of the Fianna Fáil and a former officer and a former Gaelic football coach.

Gavin joined the Irish armed forces after school at the age of 18 and was trained in the Irish Air Force (Irish Air Corps). He first played Gaelic Football for the Round Towers in Clondalkin and was then discovered for the Dublin selection. With the Dublin selection, he then won the 1995 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. He played in addition to his military training and his service exercise. After completing his training, he rose to the flight instructor and the chief pilot of the Irish government flight service. He was the commander for flight support at Minurcat. In 2011 he took one in the rank Commandant (corresponds to the major, of-3) from the armed forces.[1]

He used his military experiences for the training of the Gaelic Football teams. He was active as a trainer from 2012 to 2019. During this time he won six titles from the All-Illand Senior Football Championship with the Dublin selection. Due to his military training, he was also qualified for commercial aviation. After working as a trainer, he became Chief Operating Officer of Irish Air Supervision. On September 9, 2025, he was nominated as a candidate by the parliamentary factions of the Fianna Fáil for the 2025 presidential election.[2] He received more votes than the member of the European Parliament Billy Kelleher.

Gavin has two children with his wife Jennifer.[3]
