Codogno is confirmed as more reference point of Italian and international baseball. In this weekend, from today to Sunday, the Lodigiano Municipality hosts the Italian Baseball Week, a prestigious preparation event for the next and imminent male European Championships. The blue national team gathered in Lombardy and participates in a friendly tournament against the baseballs USA Globetrotters and the Czech Republic. Today at 15 we start with the inauguration challenge against the US selection, then tomorrow at 20.30 Italy will return to the field against the Czechs. The races will be played at the municipal stadium, which for the occasion can show off the recent lighting system.
“The Italian Baseball Week represents for the Federation an international appointment of great importance. Every time we look abroad, attention grows both nationally and internationally and for this we want to introduce ourselves to the best. The choice of Codogno is not accidental. This square is for us a point of reference and a guarantee”, underlined the vice-president of the Italian Federation of Softball, Pierluigi Bissa in the presentation conference. The appreciation of Codogno can only make Marco Boiocchi happy, the president of the white -blue club returning from a good season in Serie A1: “I would like to thank everyone. Starting with the mayor, who gave us the opportunity to organize this event and believed in our company. Without forgetting the constant support of our Giangiacomo Sello, always close and decisive. Thanks to them we can return to live the baseball in the night. Twenty years and I know how much the baseball is linked to this dimension.
As mentioned, the event will represent the appetizer before the European Championships, which will be held from 20 to 27 September between Holland (headquarters of the final stages), Belgium and Italy. The tricolor selection, led by coach Francisco Cervelli, was drawn in group C where Switzerland, Lithuania and Greece will challenge the Senago diamond, another prominent square of the Lombard baseball. Gilberto Gerali, head of the Elite national team, thus focused on Italy’s technical objectives: “Certainly the goal is to do well, driven by the desire for redemption after the disappointment of the ninth place of the last edition. We will not have to make mistakes against Switzerland, Lithuania and Greece in the first part of the tournament. So we can fly to Rotterdam and play against the Big European in the Direct Delete phase. He is working well, showing great empathy towards the boys and transmitting them the value of the blue shirt.
