Fluminense is in the semifinal of the Brazilian Cup. Faced with almost 50,000 people in Maracanã, Tricolor beat Bahia 2-0 in the return game of the quarterfinals and stamped the passport to the next phase of the competition. Canobbio and Thiago Silva scored the goals of the warrior team, which reversed the outward match score and made 2-1 in the aggregate.

Fluminense will face in the semifinal of the Brazilian Cup the winner of the confrontation between Vasco and Botafogo, who duel this Thursday (11/09), at Nilton Santos Stadium. The order of the mandates will be diminished in a draw.

The team led by coach Renato Gaúcho returns to the field next Saturday (13/09) to face Corinthians, in a match valid for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship. The match will be at 21h, in Maracanã.

First time

Seeking to reverse the outcome of the first leg, Fluminense commanded the actions of the initial stage. With high marking and disarming in the midfield, Tricolor managed to take danger to Bahia. The first chance came after three minutes, when Guga kicked cross, Canobbio dominated and finished for the goalkeeper’s defense. In rebound, Serna tried to touch Everaldo, but the defense pushed away. At nine, Guga crossed and Thiago Silva headed near the crossbar.

Tricolor had its possession in the attacking field throughout the first half, exchanging passes in search of space to finish. At 22 minutes, Everaldo received from the left, kicked and the ball passed close. At 32, Canobbio carried on the right, finished cross and the defender cut. At 35, Nonato released a bomb from afar and the goalkeeper spread. Already in the additions was the turn of Thiago Silva to take danger in a new kick of the intermediate.

Second time

Fluminense continued to press Bahia and was awarded the goal. At eight minutes, Renê received from Lucho Acosta, crossed and the ball hit the opponent’s arm inside the area, setting up a penalty. Canobbio went to the charge and moved the goalkeeper to open the scoring.

After the goal, the game became more physical, but with Fluminense still commanding the actions. At 39, Canobbio took a free kick and Thiago Silva headed beautiful to give the tricolor classification.
