FIFA Sanctions South Africa: Player Arrest Fallout

FIFA announced today, Monday, that its disciplinary committee imposed sanctions on the South African Football Association because of his involvement of the unqualified player, Thibuho Mokoena, during the match that brought together the “Bavana Pavana” team with his Lisuto counterpart, on March 21, in the World Cup qualifiers 2026.

“FIFA”, in a statement, that South Africa violated Article 19 of the Disciplinary Law of the International Football Association and Article 14 of the World Cup qualifiers.

According to the same source, the Disciplinary Committee considered that South Africa lost the match that was held on March 21 in Bulkwan (3-0), which was settled with a clean double, so that the “Pavana Bavana” team retreated to the second place in the third group with 14 points, with a goal difference behind the boys team, which is leading 3 points against the third Nigeria, while Lesoto maintained fifth place with 9 points.

He added that the South African Union, which can still appeal the decision before the “FIFA” appeal committee, must pay a fine of 10,000 Swiss francs (10 thousand and 680 euros).

The nine group leaders qualify for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, while the 4 best teams are ranked second on a second chance through the appendix.
