The French team, the first in their group after the final phase of Eurobasket 2025, inherited Georgia as an opponent for the round of the competition Thursday.
The Blues, winners of Iceland earlier during the day in Katowice (114-74), knew their next poster after Greece’s victory against Spain (90-86), title holder released prematurely. According to figures from the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), a reigning champion had not been eliminated as early since Germany in 1995. The Spaniards remained on four coronations in the last six editions of the event.
Georgians and French will therefore meet on Sunday (2:15 p.m. French time) in Riga, in Latvia. Georgia has finished fourth in a group C raised (Greece, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina), thanks to two successes acquired against the Spanish at the opening of the Euro, and Cyprus.
