The former midfielder has had a brilliant player career that led him to large clubs such as FC Barcelona, AC Milan and Bayern Munich. His coach career had more difficult beginnings.
Van Bommel started well at the PSV, but after a difficult period, he left the club relatively quickly. He was then dismissed from the VFL Wolfsburg after only a few months.
Parass period in Antwerp
His main coach career therefore had a bad turn. Until his old friend Marc Overmars came to get him in the spring to take him to the Antwerp. It was a blessing both for Van Bommel and for the Great Old.
With the Dutchman at the helm, the matriculated 1 immediately won the Belgian double that season. The second year with Van Bommel proved to be a little less good, partly because of the savings made within the club.
The Antwerp, however, had some beautiful moments in the Champions League and again reached the Cup final. After this season, Van Bommel, however, left the Bosuil. Since then, the former midfielder has always been without a club.
A new chance in Eredivisie
In recent weeks and last months, MVB has certainly been associated with various clubs, but nothing very concrete has emerged. Today, however, a new challenge could come to him. Telegraaf journalist Jeroen Kapteijns reports that Van Bommel is a “candidate of choice” for FC Twente.
The ENSCHEDE club shortly missed a European qualification last season and also had a fairly catastrophic start to the season with 3 points out of 12. This led Thursday to the dismissal of coach Joseph Oosting. Van Bommel would therefore be one of the main candidates to take over, even if for the moment, we do not know if he is interested in the position.
