Goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, borrowed from FC Bayern to HSV, fights with unfulfilled expectations and a role as a reservist.
Munich – The expectations were high when Daniel Peretz was borrowed from FC Bayern Munich to Hamburger SV. The change should give him the urgently needed game practice, which he was denied at Bayern. Sports board member Max Eberl had the clear expectation that Peretz’s goalkeeper at the promoted team.
But reality looks different. Peretz is currently only on the bench behind Daniel Heuer Fernandes, the promotion goalkeeper of the HSV. The frustration can be felt in both Peretz and Eberl. The sports director indicated that there may be promise that were not kept. “Of course we put Daniel there so that he can get to play. To what extent there was a promise in advance that he will be number one, I cannot and do not want to judge,” emphasized Eberl.
Bayern keeper only a reservist for a new club
For Peretz, who ran in seven competitive games for FC Bayern and has been number one of the Israeli national team since November 2024, the current situation at the HSV is a challenge. Despite his previous successes, both in Bavaria and internationally, he now has to face the competition in the club. Eberl emphasized that Peretz was an outstanding goalkeeper who would fight for his chance.
The challenge is to prevail against an established goalkeeper like Heuer Fernandes. The HSV has decided to go into the season as a stammer goalkeeper this year, which Peretz pushed into a frustrating reservist role. Eberl realized that the decision of the HSV to give preference to the promotion goalkeeper was a sporting decision that Peretz had to accept.
Despite the current difficulties, FC Bayern remains optimistic about the future of Peretz. The association expects him to be ready to take his chance as soon as it arises. “This is also a development that he has to take: now prevailed and the chance to use it when he gets it,” said Eberl.
FC Bayern continues to trust Peretz’s skills and sees him as an important part of future goalkeeper planning. The coming months will be crucial to show that Peretz can meet the expectations that both FC Bayern and he himself have in its development. ((smr)
