Durango Mobility Week: Bikes, Boards & Basketball

DURANGO | As every year, Durango will join the celebration of the European Mobility Week, which will take place from September 16 to 21, 2025. This annual event aims to promote the use of more sustainable, safe and healthy transport modes, while promoting greater awareness between citizenship about the importance of adopting mobility habits respectful of the environment.

During this week, the City Council of Durango has prepared a wide program of activities that will include workshops, talks and exits for all audiences, with special emphasis on the youngest. One of the outstanding activities will be the presentation of the “Don’t Be Dummy” road program, which will be held at the San Agustín Cultural Center in Durango. This program, aimed at the local youth, will have two sessions on Wednesday, September 17: one at 10:30 am and another at 12:00 hours, to guarantee the participation of the largest possible number of young people.

The weekend, on September 20 and 21, it will have a series of very varied activities, designed for the whole family and for all ages, which will promote active mobility and interaction between the participants. The activities on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., will include formations on the maintenance of bicycles and circuits of Mountain Bike, skate and departures in Zumalakarregi street (in Ezkurdi). In addition, in Jose Honey Barandiaran street, there will be various workshops such as Bike Paint (bicycle painting), crafts, talus workshop, wooden and chess games. On the other hand, on Sunday, on Zumalakarregi Street, the 3 × 3 basketball competition organized by the Tabira basketball team will be held, from 09:00 to 3:00 p.m.

These activities will allow to enjoy active mobility and fun, while sensitizing about the importance of a more sustainable and healthy city.

The local associations that will participate in this day and the activities they will carry out are:

  • Zuresku: Education workshop on healthy habits and sustainable mobility.
  • Berbaro: Talo workshop, traditional Basque food.
  • Club Ajedrez LarraSoloeta: Chess workshop for all ages.
  • Chick: Bicycle -related craft workshop.
  • SkatePark Items: Skate workshop for the most adventurers.
  • Stop Road Violence: Awareness activity against road violence and a bicycle output.
  • Duranguesa Cyclist Association: Training in bicycle mechanics and group output.
  • Tabiri basketball team: 3 × 3 basketball tournament, which will be held on September 21 in the morning.

The mayor of Durango, Mireia Elkoroiribe, highlights the importance of this initiative for the city: «The European Week of Mobility is a unique opportunity to sensitize our citizenship about the need to change our mobility habits, adopting more sustainable modes of transport, such as bicycle or walking. With the expansion of our cyclable network, the recent launch of the bizipark and activities to promote bicycle as those of this week, Durango is consolidated as a reference in the region in terms of active mobility. Through scheduled activities, we want to promote the active participation of the durangarras in a healthier and environmentally respectful city model ».
