Dortmund Train Station: Arrest After Payment Claimed

Forgotten bag leads to arrest: A 23-year-old wanted to pick up his property at Dortmund Central Station-but the police discovered two arrest warrants against him. Thanks to a payment of 712 euros, he was able to avert the detention.

A forgotten object at Dortmund Central Station had unexpected consequences for a 23-year-old man from Werne. The man reported to the federal police on the morning of September 3 to collect a shoulder bag left behind on a platform. When he appeared on the guard, he was arrested.

The bag had previously been found on the platform for track 4/5 and secured by the officials. When checking the man’s personal details, the police stated that two arrest warrants presented against him. In January 2024, the Dortmund District Court had sentenced him to a fine of 45 daily rates of ten euros each, an alternative 40 days in prison, and in February 2024 a further fine of 30 daily rates of ten euros each, alternatively seven days of imprisonment.

After the arrest, the homeless man was able to raise the required amount of EUR 712, including procedural costs, through several phone calls. After payment of the sum, he was released from the custody.
