Djokovic US Open: Quarter-Finals Run Continues

Record Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic follows Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals at the US Open.

The Serb defeated the German Jan-Lennard Struff 6: 3.6: 3.6: 2 and now meets Taylor Fritz from the USA. The top seeded Aryna Sabalenka against Spaniard Cristina Bucsa clearly continued 6: 1.6: 4.

With his victory, Djokovic is now in the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the 64th time, further expanding his all-time record. The Serb is now the oldest player who has reached the quarter -finals in a single season for all four Grand Slams.

Djokovic had to be treated on his right shoulder and forearm during the change of sides, but did not seem to be particularly impaired.

Struff, number 144 in the world, had defeated two players set and thus reached the round of 16 in Flushing Meadows for the first time, but could not put any serious pressure on his opponent.

Fritz and Pegula remain US hopes

Alcaraz, who prevails against the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (all information >>>) is in the US Open quarter-finals for the fourth time and is now the youngest man in the open professional era, who has already reached 13 major quarter-finals.

For the first time in his career, he made it into this phase at all four Grand Slam tournaments this year. In the fight for the semi-finals, the 22-year-old tennis world run run over the Czechs Jiri Lehecka, who also switched off a Frenchman in four sets with Adrian Mannarino.

The previous year’s finalist Fritz held up the US flag with a 6: 4.6: 3.6: 3 against the Czech Tomas Machac. In the quarter-finals, Jessica Pegula also has a smooth victory over her US state woman Ann Li.

Sabalenka dominated

Defending champion Sabalenka did not show her naked against the unsettled Bucsa.

The world ranking list, which was inferior to both the Australian Open and the French Open in the final, celebrated its most clear victory at this year’s tournament and approached her goal in closer to the first woman since Serena Williams in 2014.

In the quarter -finals she now meets Marketa VonDrousova, who was 6: 4.5: 7.6: 2 over the Kazakhin Jelena Rybakina, which was nine as number.

For double specialist Alexander Erler, however, the tournament has already ended after the second round. Tyrolean and his partner Robert Galloway from the USA lost to German Jakob Schnaitter/Mark Wallner 6: 7 (4), 7: 5.6: 7 (9).
