Würzburg
A great gesture for the region
02.09.25 – The Dallas Mavericks, the association, in which Dirk Nowitzki completed his entire NBA career, gave the city of Würzburg a new basketball court. The opening in Würzburg will take place on October 1st. The court is inaugurated by Dirk Nowitzki and Mavericks Ceo Rick Welts.
In addition, the 47-year-old basketball legend will give a speech at the opening ceremony. The square is opened at the Gustav Walle School in the Lindleinsmühle district of Würzburg-it is then freely available to everyone.
Such a gesture is by no means a matter of course among sports clubs
The likeable Würzburger is doing something good for his home.
A great gesture for the city in which the 2.21-meter Nowitzki learned playing basketball. The reason for the generous gift is the 20th anniversary of the Dirk-Nowitzki Foundation, which is committed to helping children and young people to develop their potential in the best possible way.
The Dallas Mavericks are already known for such actions – the Texas US club has built basketball spots in several countries in recent years. For example, two places in Slovenia, including because of the close connection to the former Mavericks star Luka Dončić. Dončić’s career was great in Madrid – two places were also built there to expand the fan base. Another place was built in Monterrey, Mexico – the sister city of Dallas, with which a close partnership is cultivated.
Now the club’s sixth place follows, this time in the hometown of its largest club legend. This is undoubtedly a good news for people from the region. (Nicolas Kraus)+++
