Costa Rica Hotel Search: Brett Gardner Son Death Case

Costa Rica’s judicial authorities raided a hotel for the second time where Brett Gardner’s youngest son, former Yankees of the New York Yankees, died during a family vacation on March 21.

Miller Gardner was 14 when he died while sleeping, according to a statement from the New York Yankees, in what was initially determined by the authorities as suffocation.

On April 2, the final determination was that the cause of the death of the child was poisoning by carbon monoxide.

Prosecutor Kenneth Álvarez told ESPN that the raid in the sands of the Beachfront & Rainforest Resort in Manuel Antonio beach, located in the Central Pacific of Costa Rica, was to collect additional evidence related to that autopsy.

“These proceedings seek to confirm or rule out that the fact corresponds to a crime of mature homicide, that is, to determine whether the death of this person was caused by lack of care

The Associated Press contacted the authorities on Friday to learn about the result of the investigation, but no additional details were provided.

The authorities made a search on the same property on March 28.

“That first inspection allowed to develop dangerous atmospheres measurements and locate the presence of carbon monoxide in the room where the Gardner family stayed,” said the Prosecutor’s Office.

Brett Gardner, 41, was selected by the Yankees in 2005 and spent his entire career in the majors with that organization.
