The pressure on Besnik Hasi is increasing every week. After the European elimination, the word ‘crisis’ sounds openly in and around Lotto Park. Anderlecht will also lose the Brussels derby against Union SG on Sunday, then the end of Hasi’s second passage threatens. The question is: who can follow him?
Door JW
Last summer Anderlecht already spoke with Philippe Clement. The former coach of Club Brugge, AS Monaco and Rangers was open for a conversation, but it didn’t come from an agreement. Purple & White finally opted for the surprising return of Hasi, who got the confidence of Olivier Renard and the board.
In the meantime, Clement is still free. His last adventure at Rangers ended in the spring of 2024, even though he gave the Scots the title. Clement himself recently said that he is mainly looking for a project with stability and clear ambitions.
Sensitive file
Yet a possible arrival from Clement to Anderlecht is not without risks. The 50-year-old coach is a child of Club Brugge and celebrated his greatest successes there: three national titles and a cup in four seasons. For the Anderlecht fans that remains a sensitive point. Moreover, Clement is known as a trainer who demands a lot of participation in the sporting level.
Yet the slope-clement is difficult to ignore. His experience, palmares and international appearance make him the most logical candidate was allowed to die. Other free coaches with his profile are currently not on the Belgian market.
Again on the table
If Anderlecht go down against Union on Sunday, chances are that the club management will switch quickly. Philippe Clement is on the table again. The sensitivity with his Bruges past will be taken into account, but in crisis times often only has one thing: results.
