It is a new scandal in the world of cycling which has already had a lot of suffering from the consequences of doping. This September 11, the Italian Giovanni Carboni (Unibet Tietema Rockets) was suspended by the Union Cycliste International (UCI). In a press release, the UCI spoke of “anomalies not explained in its biological passport of the athlete (PBA)”.
The PBA is “an individual electronic file specific to each runner, in which are recorded the results of all the anti -doping controls carried out as part of the PBA program over a given period” explains the UCI. The facts would go back to 2024, while the Italian ran for the Japanese team JCL Ukyo.
The nature of these anomalies has not been specified by the UCI, which refuses to make additional comments as long as the procedure is underway.
The Italian team, Unibet Tietema Rockets, said he was “shocked” and announced for his part in a press release suspended “with immediate effect” his runner.
The Dutch training (but which runs under French license) of second division, “as a member of the MPCC (movement for credible cycling, note)” reiterated its support for a “clean sport” and is said to be “fully committed to transparency, integrity and combat” to achieve it.
An internal investigation was also launched by the team created in 2022 and cooperates fully with the authorities in charge of the investigation.
