Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – The Calero Club of Villa Duarte has been crowned champions of the Women’s Basketball Tournament for the Santo Domingo province, securing a hard-fought victory over their rivals, Las Mineras, in a thrilling final series.
The Villa Duarte squad clinched the championship title in a decisive two-game sweep. In the final showdown, Calero emerged victorious with a 75-68 score, capping off a triumphant tournament organized by the Basketball Association of the Province Santo Domingo (Abasado).
Leading the charge for Calero was Gloribel Rodríguez, who delivered a stellar performance with 25 points, proving instrumental in her team’s conquest of the crown. Her offensive prowess was a key factor in Calero’s triumph.
The game started with Las Mineras showing early momentum, fueled by Fatima Mars. They managed to secure a narrow lead at halftime, with the score standing at 34-33. Though, the tide turned dramatically in the third quarter.
Calero substantially ramped up their intensity and execution in the second half, effectively shutting down Las Mineras’ aspirations for the championship. this shift in momentum proved to be the turning point of the game.
In the losing effort for Las Mineras, Fatima Mars was their top scorer with 25 points, while Vanessa Batista added 17 points to the scoreboard. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t overcome Calero’s second-half surge.
Gloribel Rodríguez was deservedly named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. Her exceptional performance throughout the finals, averaging an impressive 32 points across the two games – including a remarkable 39 points in the first game and 25 in the decisive final – solidified her status as the tournament’s standout player.
The championship trophy was presented to the victorious Calero Club by the President of the Organizing Committee, Deputy Patricia Núñez, alongside WILLIAM CABRAL, PRESIDENT OF ABASADO.
