For the first time since 2013, the Brasschaat Braves are again crowning Belgian champion Baseball
The Brasschaat Braves can call themselves the new Belgian champion Baseball. In an exciting final against the Borgerhout squirrels, they just held up: 4-3. For the Braves it is the first title since 2013.
The finals of the Belgian baseball competition had already caused a stir with the rapid elimination of title defender Hoboken. In the final, the Borgerhout squirrels stood opposite the Brasschaat Braves.
Brasschaat immediately cut off the breath of Borgerhout with a scorching start. The squirrels could have qualified for the final the day before, while the Braves had a week of rest.
The Braves quickly walked out 4-0, but the Borgerhout Squirrels made another match in the 8th inning: 4-3. In the nail biting last innings, no more goals were scored and so the Brasschaat Braves were allowed to celebrate the title again for the first time since 2013.
This year the champion was crowned for the first time after the double elimination system with the 4 top D1 teams, about 2 weekends. The team that loses 2 games is out. The team that wins the final game is champion.
Top favorite and defending champion Hoboken Pioneers was the first week. Deurne Spartans was also killed on Saturday.
